J Vineyards & Winery: Pinot Noir 2009

J Vineyards & Winery: Pinot Noir 2009

This J Vineyards Pinot Noir is fantastically complex and delicious. They are able to achieve such complexity with a great winemaker and good resources. Their resources are comprised of plots of land in varying micro-climates with several different soil makeups in the Russian River Valley.

The nose was soft of cherry, eucalyptus, earthy-grass and jasmine. The palate was deliciously complex with focused elements intertwined with subtle ones. The palate brought rich cherry and strawberry with a citrus orange element. As the bottle opened a bit, the orange element developed into a fantastic swirling combination of a creamy orange bang vanilla and a harder triple sec. This was mid palate, which was followed by a dusty palate element that went from moist dirt and mineral chalk to something close to cocoa. Delicious. The finish was vanilla, cherry and molasses, and it was long and satisfying! This Pinot Noir had a structure that was understandable just fair. The tannin was stout which did well to hold up to all these flavors creating good balance. This Pinot is one not to miss. Cheers!
