Dearly Beloved Wines: Red Blend 2009

Dearly Beloved Wines: Red Blend 2009

This red blend is a product of Mendocino County grapes which produces a wine that contains many rich fruit palate elements with a hint of spice. It's a fun wine in theme with the Halloween season.

The nose was initially spicy and rich with blueberry, cherry and light oak. The palate brought stout blackberry, bing cherry, plum, with milder vanilla, oak and a very faint nutmeg tart element. The finish is medium in length and was showing plum and oak. The blueberry element was by far my favorite. It came on immediately and lingered throughout most of the palate. As the bottle opened, the oak element shifted slightly to a smokey oak which was satisfying. This offering had strong acid, but fairly light tannin. I would have liked to experience a bit stronger tannin to help further balance the fruitiness of this blend. The structure is good considering all the palate elements going on. Overall, this selection brings a new palate experience to the usual red wine tasting since it is a blend. So if you are looking for something new, it is worth a try. Cheers!
