Hillgate Winery: Zinfandel 2009

Hillgate Winery: Zinfandel 2009

This Zinfandel has a nice combination of a typical fruit forward, stout palate, but with an unusually smooth mouth feel.

The nose was spicy-orange rind, plum/prune sweetness that gets the taste buds activated right away. The palate was cherry, jammy raspberry, green pepper and apricot. This wine brings medium tannin and acid to the full-bodied, fruit forward experience. The mouth feel was thick and rich. The finish was pleasantly lingering with raspberry and apricot. On day 2 tasting, the nose and palate were much smoother. The nose moved to raspberry, plum, green pepper and eucalyptus. The palate was raspberry, cherry, musty earth and green pepper. Delicious. Cheers!
