Zafrika, Pinotage 2010

Zafrika, Pinotage 2010

Pinotage, a viticultural cross, is a very interesting one. It is a cross of varieties Pinot Noir and Cinsaut or Hermitage grapes. First done in South Africa, this juice is often used in blends, but here we have a straight Pinotage wine.

The nose was strong with cranberry and cherry. The palate started tart cherry, then moved to banana and oak mid palate. At that point I could discern smooth tannin and strong acids. The finish was plum, cherry, tart blackberry and gooseberry. This is a bold, upfront offering that holds it's own for the asking price. Cheers!
