J. Calvet Reserve de L'Estay: Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

J. Calvet Reserve de L'Estay: Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

As with most wine from the Grand Vin de Bordeaux region, expectations are high, but unfortunately this selection fell short.

The nose was cherry, dandelion and tangerine. The palate starts cherry, and quickly transitions to a tangy, spicy tangerine with a nice cedar note. The finish was cherry and cedar. Overall, this selection is flabby - that is it lacks acid to hold up to the spicy flavors which also fade a bit with time. Not my first choice for a Bordeaux, but that is part of the experience. For every failure, there's usually several victories in the hunt for new, quality wines and vintages.
