Clos du Val: Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Clos du Val: Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

For Clos du Val, a Stags Leap District wine is considered by them a signature wine. This 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a very complex wine that garners harmony and balance.

The nose was aromatic with raspberry, black cherry and wet grass. The palate was bright and clear with bing cherry, floral rose, anise, vanilla, subtle oak, subtle blueberry and tangy dandelion on the end palate. The finish was medium in length with cherry and vanilla. This medium finish is a sign of a good winemaker. The finish doesn't have to be long and full. When the wine is satisfying but does not try go full in all elements, the winemaker is letting certain elements rise, and others compliment with a more passive role. Overall, this wine offers good tannin, great structure with the many palate elements, and pleases with a solid medium-bodied wine that does it all with finesse. Cheers!
