This offering is a blend of Petite Sirah, Old Vine Zinfandel and Old Vine Mourvédre. This combination lives up to it's billing, delivering a rich, bold wine with extravagant flavors.
The nose was spicy and delicious with blueberry and cinnamon. The palate was, as you might guess, full-bodied and bold, with blueberry, blackberry, musty earth and cinnamon notes. The finish was long and satisfying with a mineral-chalk, musty earth and cinnamon. This wine offers strong tannins and acids which help balance the large flavors well. Once the bottle opened, the nose included a cognac note. The palate moved to blueberry, blackberry, subtly bitter sage, strawberry and cinnamon. The finish changed to cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa. As many great wines do, the Phantom seems to evolve for the better as it opens. Delicious. Cheers!
