Penmara Wines: The White Ribbon Semillon 2009

Penmara Wines: The White Ribbon Semillon 2009

The Semillon varietal has long been used in blending to produce Bordeaux Blancs, Sauternes and Barsacs. But the Australians are now creating wines exclusively with the Semillon varietal, and the results are fairly good. They have the subtle qualities of a Chardonnay.

The nose was musty with honey and lemon notes. The palate was green apple, guava, hibiscus, lime and a mild musty cedar. The finish was a fantastic combination of burnt toast and lime. Overall, this medium-bodied offering was very smooth and drinkable with dry notes that aren't too aggressive or green. This selection is worth a try if you're looking to explore other white wines or enjoy subtle Chardonnays. Cheers!
