Merryvale Vineyards: Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Merryvale Vineyards: Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Merryvale's emphasis is on vineyards known for the excellence of their micro-climate, soils and management. This Cabernet Sauvignon reflects this excellence in it's character and boldness.

The nose was cherry, spice, anise and interesting to me - pine, like a pine tree. The palate was rich with cherry, currant, eucalyptus and oak. This a high alcohol wine as evidence in the prominent legs. The mouth feel is thick with medium to strong tannins balancing out the palate. The finish was cherry, oak and a nice mineral-chalk. As the bottle opened up, the nose introduced blueberry to the original aromas. The palate changes for the good to cherry, spicy tart with tannins seeming to come on stronger, currant, musty oak and eucalyptus. The finish was tangy cherry, oak and a vanilla hint. This wine definitely will benefit from decanting. Cheers!
