Cline Cellars: Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2008

Cline Cellars: Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2008

This wine has it's roots in the Cline family’s 80 to 100-year old vines in Oakley, California. From these historic holdings the wine has grown to include grapes sourced from California’s finest zinfandel regions.

The nose was of blueberry and mocha. The palate was vibrant with black cherry, mocha, slight coffee and tangerine rind spice. The finish was long and smooth, with vanilla and oak notes. Once the bottle has a chance to open up, the nose revealed a bit of a coffee aroma beside the blueberry and mocha from the initial opening. The palate remained the same, which was good. Overall, this is not a super aggressive Zinfandel, I think it finds a great balancing point of strong flavor and smoothness. This wine is well rounded with soft tannins that help it with this balancing act. This is a bottle worth trying, perhaps with your next barbeque. Cheers!
