Chateau Potelle: Cabernet Sauvignon VGS Mount Veeder 2005

Chateau Potelle: Cabernet Sauvignon VGS Mount Veeder 2005

This offering by Chateau Potelle is a 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot blend. This combination yields a rich, intense wine with good structure throughout.

The nose was grassy, with blackberry, oak and lemon grass aromas. The palate was of blackberry, vanilla, smoky oak and a spice note of tangerine. The finish was of vanilla and oak with a dry element from the good tannins that match the intense fruit flavors. As the bottle opened, the nose remained the same, but the palate improved greatly. The palate revealed blackberry, vanilla, smoky oak and tangerine spice flavors with a pink grapefruit hint mingling with the blackberry and tangerine. The tannins really kick in as well, making for a perfectly balanced, well structured wine. With those tannins, the finish moved to a dry tart-pucker of black berry, vanilla and oak. Cheers!
