Quarles Harris: Port, Late Bottles Vintage 2003

Quarles Harris: Port, Late Bottles Vintage 2003

This late bottled vintage is just that, a wine from a single harvest, from the year 2003. It's characteristics are full bodied with a mellow overall feel.

The nose was of molasses and prune, sweet and smooth. The palate was of apricot, molasses, lemon balm and oak. The finish had molasses sweetness and orange must notes. The overall feel is quite subdued compared to most other ports which are quite powerful, and to some overpowering. So this is a good port for those wanting to try this type of wine without being buried in the experience, then stronger ports can be appreciated form their characteristics and strength. Generally the ports don't need aerating, as the flavor does stay consistent. This port did however have slightly different flavors to my palate once it opened a bit. It's palate goes to molasses, orange must and cognac - very nice. Cheers!
