Trader Joe's Coastal: Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Trader Joe's Coastal: Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Trader Joe's teams up with a respectable Central Coast vineyard to produce an affordable Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a step above an entry level cab for those getting into the wine tasting game, but at the price of an entry level wine.

The nose excites the senses with plentiful blackberry and pepper cues. With the first sip, you'll notice that this a meaty wine, that is it has substance and weight, quite good. The palate was raspberry and blackberry with subtle vanilla and oak notes. The medium finish is of pepper and blackberry in equal parts.

Once the bottle opens, the palate moves to strawberry, blackberry and a hint of mint. These layers of flavor were very complimentary of each other. The are distinct, but bend together for an overall pleasing Cabernet Sauvignon. The finish also changes to berry, brandy and chocolate. If your taste buds are ready, this wine is a treat. I mostly enjoyed how the flavors smoothed and redefined during the course of the wine opening up. Cheers!
