Baron Herzog Wine Cellars: Syrah/Shiraz Lodi 2005

Baron Herzog Wine Cellars: Syrah/Shiraz Lodi 2005

Like most Syrahs, this offering from Herzog Wine Cellars is big, but it has a surprisingly smooth mid and finish which gives it an advantage over other, more harsh Syrahs.

One whiff, and you will be greeted with a nose of even parts blackberry and blueberry, with a smokey-oak hint as well. The mouth is blueberry, vanilla, spice. Many bold flavors all at it together, it's great. This wine is heavy in the mouth - if feels substantial with soft tannins. The finish was blueberry and vanilla oak. After opening up a bit, the nose changes to vanilla up front, with blackberry, blueberry, and white pepper. The palate turns slightly to blackberry, blueberry and a vanilla smoke end. The spice note fades slightly, and the finish was very smooth. Cheers!
