Cape May Winery was established in 1996 and in 2003 Toby Craig purchased the winery & vineyard. Our winemaker, Darren Hesington, prides himself with making a wine for everyone. We’ve won numerous awards and have established ourselves as the third largest winery in New Jersey. We have three separate vineyards that we manage and one of them is names Isaac Smith Vineyard, after a coffin maker, Isaac Smith, who lived in the 1820’s. The owner of the winery lives on the old Isaac Smith Estate and incorporated his name onto our labels.Our winery is open year round and we offer tasting every day we are open. From January to April we are open 12-5pm Wednesdays through Sundays. From May to December we are open daily from 12-5pm with extended hours till 6pm in July and August. We offer winery tours year round as well and they include a tour of the vineyard and facility, offer a wine tasting, including a barrel tasting and a souvenir glass to take home with you. The tour cost is $20 per person (under 21 is free) and we do recommend reservations. We grow at least 16 different varieties and make over 20 different types of wine. We currently release new wines 4 times a year, so anytime you are in the area, it is best to stop in and taste. For a new experience, bring your friends along and host your own blending party. The blending party allows you to be winemaker for the day. Make your own blend, design a label and name the wine. Darren Hesington
Wine Maker
Darren began his career at the Cape May Winery in 2003. He has gained his knowledge of winemaking from years of experience, which began at Unionville Vineyards as well as viticulture and enology classes in VA and NY. Most of Darren’s success is credited to Keith Bown, an Australian winemaker. Darren worked with Keith at Unionville and had a great opportunity to work on a crush in the Hunter Valley Region of Australia. “Since working at Cape May Winery, we’ve grown tremendously. The environment is fun, creative and fulfilling”.
